STILL RISING: A Quaker Camp Recovers from Hurricane Helene

On September 27th, 2024, Hurricane Helene tore through Camp Celo, a Quaker summer camp in western North Carolina, washing away bridges and power lines. Our filmmakers traveled to Celo last month to tell their story.

Neighbors quickly checked on everyone and began rebuilding, with volunteers returning through winter and spring to repair structures and make sure camp could open. By summer, children were back—wading and playing in the river — bringing a sense of healing and renewal to the whole community. Rooted in Quaker values of community and stewardship, the story follows how people came together to bring hope after the flood.

Immense gratitude to the Camp Celo community for sharing their story, and especially to Drew Perrin, Carly Todd, Niko Perrin and Alma Rouse. Their powerful reflections, POV footage and stills truly ground this piece.
